Are John and Lorraine Strong or Weak?

I think John is a strong character because he has his own opinion and does what he wants. In the book John smokes and drinks even though everyone tells him not to. He may not be the smartest, but he is strong minded and stubborn. John leads Lorraine, which is a sign of a strong person. Everyone in my group put John in the exact same place on the scale, which was between the middle and strong.

Lorraine, on the other hand, was decided as a pretty weak character. Everyone put her between weak and the middle, mainly because she can't seem to make her own decisions. Lorraine just follows John around and does whatever she wants. She can't even convince him to stop drinking and smoking. Lorraine isn't very strong willed, making her a weak character. Towards the end of the book she does seem to become stronger by sticking up to her mom when something went terribly wrong and she got in trouble. I think this might be a sign that she would be stronger in future books, but I'm not sure if it was just a one time deal. The book did make it seem that Mr. Pignati had a real positive influence on the kids, which may change both John and Lorraine's strength level.
